Situated about 100 kilometers south of Hanoi capital and in the southernmost region of the Red River Delta. Ninh Binh stretches its land from the Northwest mountainous area to the delta, therefore, it is called a half mountain half plain province. Actually, there are three main types of topography in Ninh Binh: limestone mountains (Karst landscape) with breathtaking caves & grottoes; the delta formed by Red River Silt, and a coastline of 18 kilometers.

Besides limestone topography and peaceful green countryside, Ninh Binh is also famous for the first imperial capital of Vietnam, from 968 to 1010 under feudal dynasties, which has resulted in its cultural, and religious tourism potential. The sights include Bai Dinh Pagoda, Hoa Lu temples, Thai Vi temple, and Bich Dong Pagoda… Ninh Binh has the oldest national park of Vietnam, Cuc Phuong National Park. It is not only home to an amazing diversity of flora and fauna, but also the largest nature reserve in Vietnam. Moreover, it is one of the great places for trekking in Northern Vietnam. Last but not least, Phat Diem stone cathedral, the masterpiece of the construction combination between Vietnamese and Western styles. It is quite spectacular, especially because of its size and its interior with its huge columns.
